Westwood has an opening for an avian biologist for a proposed wind project in Ward County, North Dakota beginning in mid-April 2017 and continuing through April 2018. The work will be intermittent with approximately 25-30 hours every other week, with no work scheduled between weeks. During the beginning of the survey season from late April through May the work is expected to exceed 40 hours per week. There is a possibility for further work beyond this term.

Primary duties will include conducting general avian point count surveys, grassland breeding bird surveys, eagle point count surveys, and aerial and ground-based raptor nest surveys.
Applicants should have demonstrable experience conducting bird surveys and must be proficient at identifying birds by both site and sound. B.S. or M.S. degree in biology preferred. Candidates with prior experience conducting avian surveys for wind energy projects will be given preference. The applicant must be able to work independently and interact with project managers, technicians, and landowners. Use of personal vehicle will be required and mileage reimbursement will be paid for personal vehicle use.

Pay rate from $20-25 per hour depending on experience.
