Bat internship 2017
Yosemite National Park
2 Internships are available
The internship will combine baseline data collection of species presence and absence and (citizen science) public engagement with the process. The interns will conduct auditory monitoring of bats using a mobile Sonabat backpack unit on established walking transits. We have 4 locations, surveying one location on each night. Together the 2 wildlife interns will actively collect data while bringing along a group of park visitors (max 20 people). The interns will work as a team, each intern will be responsible for the data collection at two sites, and the group management and education at the other two sites.
The time commitment: 4 days per week, 8 hours per day (~3pm-11pm).
Training will be provided on equipment, local bats, and public engagement/education.
The two interns will share a campsite at Hodgdon Campground. There are showers and laundry facilities available for use in the employee housing area adjacent to the campground. Camping equipment is available to borrow for the summer.
