Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (WEST), a dynamic medium size consulting firm with offices in 12 states. WEST provides consulting services to government, industry and other organizations.

Duties include monitoring in the vicinity of an active golden eagle nest to better identify activity patterns and area being utilized by the resident eagles. Field work will entail long hours of sitting/standing, sometimes in hot and windy conditions. Technicians must be able to communicate and work effectively with clients, other consulting teams, and WEST supervisors. Technician will be required to follow all pertinent safety protocols, and will be expected to use good judgment to stay safe while working.

Work hours will vary depending on season but will average ~20 hours. Most work will occur on the weekends; however, there may be some need for work during the week as well, though not consistently.

Duration: up to 4 months with currently anticipated end date of mid-July, 2017
Location: Northern Arizona (Flagstaff/Holbrook/Show Low area)
Qualified candidates will have completed a bachelor degree (or near completion) in biological studies or closely related discipline; provide evidence of having worked on biological field studies or prior field experience. Must be able to work independently. Ability to use GPS equipment, organize and enter data, and organize and maintain equipment is also required. Technician must be able to adhere to scientific protocols and health and safety guidelines; must be able to communicate effectively with crew leader and other managers. Candidates experienced in raptor identification will be given preference. Candidates located in proximity to the survey area (N. Arizona) and available to start work ASAP will be given preference.

Of primary importance, applicant must be in good physical condition (surveys will be conducted in locations where temperatures and conditions can be extreme.) Outerwear (e.g., boots, rain gear, appropriate cold-weather clothing) will not be provided and are the responsibility of the employee. A field vehicle will be provided, or mileage reimbursement paid for a personal vehicle if candidate has a suitable vehicle and a willingness to use for work purposes.

Job requires the person filling this position be able to work safely; appear for work on time; to walk for long periods of time; to follow instructions from manager and team leader; to interact effectively with coworkers and clients; and to accept guidance and constructive criticism.
