Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is looking for a intern to work from August to October (dates flexible). This opportunity is intended for enthusiastic college-level students with a deep interest in advancing their career goals in natural resources and/or vegetation management on our public lands. Work will primarily be conducting surveys and tagging of monarch butterflies, other duties include habitat monitoring, spraying invasive plant species, maintaining vehicles, camera trap monitoring, data entry, waterfowl surveys, assisting with New Mexico meadow jumping mouse monitoring, and keeping equipment organized. Housing will be provided on the refuge for the summer, and a stipend of 250 will be given every two weeks.
• Willingness to work in adverse conditions (mosquitoes, hot temperatures, humidity, and wet and muddy conditions).
• Be able to work as a team as well as independently doing field work. Be willing to have fun and work hard!
• A valid state driver’s license
• Effective written and oral communication skills
