SPECIES seeks a Communications and Networking Intern to join our organization. The internship will provide an opportunity to learn about communication and fundraising strategies, develop writing and communication skills, and enhance their professional career growth and development. Responsibilities include:

• Assist in planning, developing and implementing communication and fundraising strategies and campaigns
• Prepare articles, social media content, and audio-visual and multimedia materials for SPECIES’ accounts, highlighting SPECIES’s new reports, press releases, news, online advocacy, and awareness-raising campaigns
• Identify, develop and maintain contacts and avenues of communication at major newspapers, magazines, and other journalism sources
• Increase SPECIES’s profile among the media, international organizations, policy makers and the general public, promoting the vision, mission and strategic goals of the organization
• Research into potential donors, philanthropic support, organizations, individuals, corporations, foundations, and other funding institutions and sources
• Identify, grow and engage like-minded conservation communities of influencers, donors, partners and peers by linking potential funders to other stakeholders and organizing meetings and events to facilitate relationships
• Research on current trends in philanthropy that will be relevant to future SPECIES’ fundraising strategies
• Initiate and develop new social fundraising campaigns, such as peer to peer fundraising and social networking events
• Develop marketing campaigns through social media, email, and online advocacy
• Current undergraduate student enrolled in a relevant field is preferred
• Able to work for up to 3 months
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and organizational skills
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with keen attention to detail
• Social media saavy (Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter)
• Ability to work independently under some supervision and to take initiative
• Interest in learning fundraising software platforms
• Creative and proactive
• Organized and rigorous in work
• Flexible, eager to learn, and passionate about conservation
• Ease with Photoshop, InDesign, and infographics tools a plus
• Additional multimedia and audio-visual material skills a plus
