Description
Supervise 7-8 person AmeriCorps crew to perform heavy manual labor related to environmental conservation and restoration projects. Crew leaders should be able to work effectively as a member of a crew; perform heavy manual labor related to environmental conservation and restoration projects; work outdoors in all types of weather and successfully adapts to various climates; camps overnight outdoors in wilderness areas near work sites for short or extended periods of time; effectively learn and apply new environmental conservation and restoration skills and outdoor living skills; actively participate in environmental education activities; practice appropriate safety procedures in all tasks assigned; use, maintain and repair hand and power tools as necessary.  Projects vary but include trail construction and maintenance, ecosystem restoration, habitat restoration, fire fuels reduction, fencing on public lands, invasive weed removal, herbicide applications, and many others. Crew leaders should have 1+ years experience in conservation work or with a conservation corps. The typical schedule is 9-days on (camping at worksite) and 5-days off. This is a non residetial program.  The Crew Leader will be expected to drive an SECC vehicle. Will assist in training and leading an eight-person conservation crew in all projects as assigned.
Age Requirement: 21+
Start Date: August 14th - 2 positions   OR    Spetember 5th,  2017 - 4 positions
End Date: November 2017
Qualifications
There will be 3 crews running this fall, 6 leader positions are open at this time (2 per crew). Please note in your application which start date you would be available for.
Crew 1: August 14th - November 2017
Crew 2 & 3: September 5th - November 2017

Qualifications:
To qualify, you must be a US citizen that has received a high school diploma or GED. All offers of employment are conditional upon completion of an acceptable check of the National Sex Offender Public Registry and federal criminal background check.  

Required Skills:
Leadership experience with youth or young adults.
Be at least 21 years old with a driver's license and clean driving record (insurable by current SECC carrier).
Technical trail building and maintenance experience.

1 - 2 years conservation corps experience or land management agency experience related to natural resource management. 
Excellent organizational skills.
Physically fit and able to work long days in adverse conditions. 
High School diploma and GED certificate.
Current Wilderness First Aid or higher and CRP certification.
Good driving record (insurable by current SECC carrier) and current driver's license.  

Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching, facilitation and team building experience within diverse groups of people.
1 - 2 years conservation corps experience or land management agency experience related to natural resource management. 
Professional conservation, construction or landscaping experience.
SECC will train exceptional applicants.
Familiarity with basic conservation skills including tool maintenance.
Chainsaw experience and certifications.
Relevant Bachelor's degree.
Current Wilderness First Responder and CPR certificate. 
Sense of humor, spirit of adventure, and desire to make a positive difference.
