Assist in the implementation and administration of the Upper Gunnison River Watershed Weed Management Plan through Integrated Weed Management. Participte in and lead coordinated weed management efforts of Gunnison County, Town of Mt. Crested Butte, Town of Crested Butte, the Crested Butte Land Trust and others. Assist in the implementation of the County Reclamation and Private Lands Assistance Programs. Funding for this position is anticipated to last for 27 weeks at 40 hours per week, with a tentative term of May– October, 2017.

Education and Experience:
(A) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in agriculture, land management, environmental sciences or closely related field and 8 months experience working as a pesticide applicator; or (B) Two years of college and 8 months experience as a pesticide applicator with a Certified Operator’s License; or (A) Have the ability to acquire a Qualified Supervisors License or Certified Applicators License prior to the field season.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(A) Working knowledge of an Integrated Weed Management program (B) Ability to identify noxious weeds. (C) Ability to mix and work with herbicides. (D) Ability to hike and treat weeds in rough terrain. (E) Ability to operate a weed truck, ATV and UTV weed sprayers. (F) Knowledge of applicable state, federal, and local laws and/or regulations. (G) Ability to work independently. (H) Ability to carry out assigned projects to completion. (I) Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. (J) Ability to speak publicly to groups of all sizes. (K) Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, agencies, and the public. (L) Ability to keep accurate records. (M) Ability to prepare documents using a computer with Microsoft Word and/or Excel. (N) Ability to read and interpret documents such as chemical labels, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. (P) Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. (Q) Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, and volume.

Other Skills and Abilities:
(A) Ability to perform minor equipment maintenance functions; strenuous labor for extended periods of time; learn and follow standard safety practices and procedures common to equipment operation work; follow written and oral instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

Must possess or have the ability to acquire a Certified Applicators License or Qualified Supervisor Applicator License from the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

A valid Colorado driver’s license is required for the position.
