SVT is seeking a Land Stewardship Coordinator for the 2017-2018 TerraCorps service year. TerraCorps is part of the AmeriCorps program of national public service.

The LSC will help build the long-term capacity of SVT by creating networks of volunteers to support hands-on stewardship of community lands. He or she will organize, train, and collaborate with municipal boards, neighborhood and civic associations, community members, youth groups, and schools to care for, improve access to, and support the long-term resiliency and sustainable use of community lands.

The LSC may survey and monitor conservation land, build and maintain recreational trails, restore wildlife habitat, mitigate erosion, and improve public access to open spaces. By providing training and organizing collaborative land-focused projects, the LSC will increase resources for community projects, demonstrate environmentally responsible land management, help individuals build skills, and nurture an inclusive sense of public ownership in the local landscape. The LSC will spend roughly 60% of the time in the office and 40% in the field.
Essential Qualifications:
*Bachelors degree in natural resources management or related field; experience may be substituted for education
*Ability to navigate independently in the field utilizing map, compass, and GPS units
*Ability to read and interpret various maps, such as surveys, aerial photos, and USGS topos
*Experience with natural systems and identifying plant and wildlife species
*Good interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to interact with a variety of people in an educational or management role
*Comfortable serving independently in both an office and field setting
*Good physical conditions and able to walk 3-4 miles a day over uneven terrain in a range of weather conditions
*Comfortable utilizing computer programs such as Microsoft Office and have the ability to quickly learn new programs

Desired Qualifications:
*Knowledge and experience with ArcGIS mapping software
*Good writing skills and able to prepare technical reports
*Experience giving presentations and/or trainings to a diverse audience
*Experience training and managing volunteers
