A Masters level graduate research assistantship is available in the Natural Resources Management Program at North Dakota State University. The student will field delineate and GPS wetland boundaries on approximately 3400 ha of primarily native prairie, woodlands, and wetlands in central North Dakota. Data layers will include wetland classification, major soils, major vegetation, and the laws and policies affecting each wetland. A comparison will be made with the created maps and the existing NWI maps for the area. Ideally the start date would be early this summer.
The preferred qualifications would be a student with a background in GIS and wetland delineation, or at least identification of wetland soils. Additionally the student will have a strong academic record with a background in natural resources, strong written and oral communications skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to spend long hours hiking in the field while carrying the needed equipment.
