Description
The on-call Biologist works on multiple projects typically located in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles Counties, with a varying workload monthly by demand. On-call Biologists will primarily work in the field, but assignments may include report writing and other office duties as needed. Candidates applying for this position should reside in or near Ventura County.

Responsibilities include biological field surveys, nesting bird surveys, pre-construction surveys, construction monitoring, habitat assessments, wetland delineations, re-vegetation monitoring and data collection, vegetation mapping/surveying, and special status plant and animal surveys.

Required skills include extensive knowledge of Southern California flora and fauna with a focus special status species identification and bird identification by sight and sound. The position requires a minimum of three years of field work experience with at least one of the job duties described above.

This position requires regular and frequent communication, feedback, and coordination as support to Project Managers and Principals. Employees will be provided with information needed on a per project basis, including work to be completed, survey protocols, project locations, species with potential to occur, data forms to be completed, and other information required.

The on-call Biologist will be expected to visit the site, perform the required survey/monitoring task, record data clearly and accurately, take photos as needed, and report back to the project manager in a timely fashion.
Qualifications
*Minimum of B.Sc. (M.Sc. preferred) in Biology, Botany, Ecology, Environmental Sciences or Related
*3 Years of Field Biology experience
*Knowledge and familiarity with Southern California flora/fauna/habitats
*Ability to identify local birds by sight and sound
*Ability to conduct field work in strenuous conditions, including hot, cold, or wet weather and/or steep terrain
*A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
*Professional etiquette
*Stable work history
*Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
*Must be self-motivated
*Strong communication and organizational skills
*Extremely detail-oriented
*Ability to work independently as assigned (on-call biologist does not report to office)
