Description
General Description Under the direction of the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) Outreach and Education Manager, this position is responsible for outreach services at the TFFC including special events, visitor activities (including fishing), promotions, social media and other online content, and volunteer recruitment/retention. Serves as personnel manager for special events coordinator and visitor logistics specialist. Assists Outreach & Education Manager with planning, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating community, school, and public outreach programs for TFFC. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree. Experience: Three years of experience in education or interpretive programming; Three years of experience as supervisor or team leader. NOTE: Experience may have occurred concurrently. Licensure: If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid State driver's license. ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS: Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree may substitute for one year of the required experience; Graduation from an accredited college or university with a PhD degree may substitute for two years of the required experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Education, Outdoor Recreation, Biology, Wildlife, Fisheries, or a closely related field. Experience: One year of experience managing volunteers. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Knowledge of current uses of social media and other web content for promotion of an organization; Knowledge of flora and fauna of Texas and basic ecological concepts; Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook; Skill in effective verbal and written communication; Skill in organizing work schedules and logistics planning; Skill in recruiting, motivating, and retaining volunteers; Skill in effective interaction with staff at all levels of the department and other state agencies and organizations; Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts; Skill in managing several projects simultaneously; Skill in planning, assigning and/or supervising the work of others; Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions; Ability to interpret agency policies, procedures, rules, etc.; Ability to prioritize high volume of work requests from multiple sources and effectively schedule work time; Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities; Ability to work independently with little or no supervision; Ability to work as a member of a team; Ability to deal effectively with agency personnel, state officials, and public; Ability to function as a team player, foster an inclusive team environment and to promote, establish and maintain effective working relationships; Ability to efficiently train and coordinate the work of staff and volunteers in a busy environment; Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program. WORKING CONDITIONS: Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; Required to work on holidays, weekends and hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including rotation weekends as necessary; Required to work overtime as necessary; May be required to operate a State vehicle; Required to travel 10% with possible overnight stays; Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
