SVT is seeking a Regional Conservation Coordinator for the 2017-2018 TerraCorps service year. TerraCorps is part of the AmeriCorps program of national public service.
The RCC will help build the long-term capacity of SVT by assessing community needs related to land conservation and land access and then organizing collaborative community projects to help meet these needs.
SVT has proposed the following potential projects for the 2017 - 2018 service year:
*Increase community engagement and knowledge of land conservation.
*Research land trusts or other conservation organizations currently involved in urban land protection/urban greening, produce case studies and make recommendations to SVT for an urban conservation strategy for the organization.
*Plan and coordinate conservation educational programs for the West Suburban Conservation Council, a regional consortium of land trusts, conservation commissions, agencies, and landowners in MetroWest Boston.
*Train conservation volunteers to assist with outreach to neighbors, friends, and landowners in their communities.
*Organize one or more educational workshops for landowners and/or conservation practitioners.
*Help SVT implement its new regional priority plan for land protection. *Development of these and other projects will occur during the first two months of service and consider the member’s interests and skills.
*High school diploma and relevant experience
*A strong interest in working with municipalities and community groups on land conservation projects
*Comfortable speaking to groups
*Strong writing and verbal communication skills
*Able to work both independently and as a member of a team
*Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs
*Knowledge and direct experience with ArcGIS mapping software
*Experience coordinating events
*Experience developing public information materials
*Experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers
*Experience in local government and/or civic organizations
*Experience in land conservation or land use planning
