Description
Intern will conduct wildlife research and assist Game, Fish, and Park staff and graduate student in collecting radiotelemetry data for a Merriam's wild turkey research study in the northern Black Hills. Also will assist with radiotelemetry monitoring bobcats and bighorn sheep. Will assist with captures of bobcats in the Black Hills. This student will track survival and also determine cause-specific mortality of turkeys, bighorn sheep, and bobcats. Maintenance of equipment, data entry, and office assistance will also be required. Intern may be working long and variable hours in adverse conditions. Applicant must be in good physical condition, possess valid driver’s license, and be able to use trucks and ATVs under off-road conditions. Work vehicle and equipment provided.
Qualifications
Applicant must be a full-time student at a college or university. Preference will be given to those with junior standing or above by the end of the Spring 2017 semester, or who are currently enrolled at a vocational-technical school and have completed one year (nine months) by the start of the internship. Recent 2017 spring or summer graduates (with appropriate undergraduate degree) are eligible for this internship. Coursework in human dimensions training, wildlife management and techniques, or ornithology is desired. Experience with radio-telemetry equipment will be desirable. Applicant must be in good physical condition, possess valid driver’s license, and be able to use trucks and ATVs under off-road conditions. Work vehicle and equipment provided.
