2024 Fish Technician at Macaulay Salmon Hatchery Location: Juneau, Alaska Starting Wage: $14.00 per hour DOE, plus housing for non-Juneau residents who have fisheries experience Closing Date: Until position is filled ______________________________________ Douglas Island Pink and Chum, Inc. (DIPAC) is now accepting applications for seasonal Fish Technicians at Macaulay Hatchery. This position begins in mid-January and ends in mid to late October 2024. Duties: The Fish Technician position is an entry-level position, meaning they will assist permanent staff in a variety of fish culture duties including, but not limited to, feeding and sampling fish, cleaning rearing containers, broodstock collection, maintaining incubators, and processing adult salmon. Hatchery Information: The goal of Douglas Island Pink and Chum, Inc. is to sustain and enhance valuable salmon resources of the State of Alaska for the economic, social, and cultural benefit of all citizens, and to promote public understanding of Alaska's salmon resources and salmon fisheries through research, education, and tourism. Qualifications
Desired applicants would have education and/or experience in natural resources, aquaculture, wildlife management, etc. Persons must be physically fit and able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds over 100 yards repeatedly. The applicant should be able to work in exposed conditions with inclement weather, as well as have a positive attitude within the work place even while working in cold and dark conditions occasionally. Possession of a valid driver's license with a good driving record is preferred.
