Description
NB: Anyone who is passionate about wildlife conservation is welcome to join this program. We can, based on requirements of your University or yourself, tailor the program to meet those needs. Otherwise, you will enrol in the standard program and work with other participants *students and volunteers* alongside staff members.  If you dream of spending time with cheetah's, other endangered African wildlife and discover the African bush, you should definitely sign up for this program. The program consists of three aspects, where you will perform a number of activities, be actively involved in conservation and visit several interesting places (Anti Poaching Unit, Kruger National Park, Reptile park.) The focus of the program is on the cheetah, and you will actively be involved in the day-to-day operations of the centre and care for cheetah's as well as other species.. This includes, cleaning, feeding, and if required and if they occur during your time there, assisting with or observing any veterinary activities. What can you expect? Working with cheetah, wild dog, small spotted cats, African wildcats and more. (there are baby elephants and rhino's at the centre) Preparation of animal food and feeding the animals. Possibility of working with the wildlife vet (darting, capturing and operating on animals). Possibility of assisting in the hand-rearing of animals. Local community involvement (e.g. visiting schools in rural areas). During the 21 day program there will be a number of informal lectures on : Conservation Animal identification Plants and ecology Astronomy Reptiles Birds South African history and cultural diversity Anti-Poaching Obviously, those lectures will be followed by fun, educational practical experiences: Trip to reptile park Identification of plants on walking excursions Tracking in the bush Trip to local tribal village A day trip to Kruger National Park Stargazing Natural and traditional food preparation. Game drives On Sunday's your off and free to book an excursion or just relax at the volunteer accommodation.

WHY DO I PAY TO PARTICIPATE? This centre relies on funding and does not have the capacity to cover the costs for accommodation, meals and other expenses of volunteers. The rate for this 21 day program is 32700 ZAR (South African Rand.)
