- The USDA-ARS National Laboratory for Agriculture and the Environment in Ames, Iowa is looking for an Agricultural Science Technician to support a research program into sustainable agricultural systems. This is a permanent, full-time position. The incumbent will participate in the research process by performing a variety of complex technical duties in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment and contributes ideas towards the technical aspects of the research. The emphasis of this position will be performing mechanical farm management activities (e.g., planting, harvesting, spraying) and data collection, processing, and analysis. Specific duties include: Collects, processes, and evaluates plant samples and verifies supporting records. Maintains the inventory of chemicals, supplies, and equipment for use in the laboratory, field, or greenhouse facility, and safely disposes of waste material (both chemical and biological). Maintains records and locates and compiles data and other information from various sources. Independently initiates action to resolve or correct technical difficulties, or recommends resolution to supervisor. Maintains, calibrates, and modifies field and laboratory equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures. Tabulates, statistically analyzes, and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages.
