An MS or PhD graduate position in amphibian ecology and conservation is available to study the distribution and characteristics of amphibian breeding habitats in North Dakota. The graduate student will be co-advised by Drs. Matthew Smith and Mark Clark at North Dakota State University, Fargo, North Dakota starting in January 2017.
Funding is in support of a project with North Dakota Game and Fish Department (NDGF). To help inform the current status and potential management strategies of amphibians in North Dakota, the highly-motivated graduate student will work to quantify amphibian diversity and distributions in North Dakota. This project will include a mix of bioacoustic monitoring, habitat characterization and modeling, in addition to working closely with NDSU and NDGF staff to build a state-wide citizen science program focused on amphibians. The position will be primarily field-based, focusing on eastern North Dakota, but other travel and some lab-based work will likely be required.
The ideal graduate student will be independent, highly-motivated, organized, and a problem solvers. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in field-based ecology, amphibians, habitat modeling, and/or citizen science/outreach.

BS degree in biology, wildlife, fisheries, natural resources or related discipline, with GPA of 3.5 or higher. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated research experience (data collection, analysis, and writing). Ability to work independently and with project team.
Experience with amphibian field research and/or habitat modeling. Interest in herpetology, conservation biology, or wildlife biology. Experience publishing scientific research. Advanced quantitative skills including analysis in R.
