Under the supervision of Regional Fisheries Biologist this position will provide assistance in implementing angler recruitment and retention efforts in the Ozark Region (Carter, Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Pulaski, Phelps, Ripley, Shannon, Texas, and Wright). The hourly rate is $9.42. The position start date is September 30th but can be flexible. It is 40 hours/week, nights and weekends a must and runs through November 15, 2017. Depending on funding the position has potential to be extended through October 2018. Flexible start date can be arranged. • Conduct Discover Nature Fishing angler education programs. • Recruit, train and maintain a cadre of active angler education volunteers by promoting Discover Nature Fishing program to various angling groups and interested individuals. • Coordinate program schedule with volunteers, partners, and participants. • Coordinate program registration, complete activity reports, and conduct radio spots and news releases. • Maintain region-wide record of all angler instructors, aides, participants, and courses. • Assist with rod and reel loaner program by promoting to libraries, activity centers and any interested entities and maintenance of equipment. • Maintain the Discover Nature Fishing rods and reels and teaching trunk equipment. Purchase fishing equipment and bait as needed. • Assist Outreach and Education division with a limited series of one-day workshops to train teachers and other group leaders on how to teach the Discover Nature Fishing materials. • Other duties as assigned.
• Some college in the area of Natural Resources or Education required. • Public speaking and communication skills required. • Basic knowledge of angling, angling techniques, and the ability to diagnose and do basic repair of fishing equipment is required. • Knowledge of basic computer and excellent record keeping skills required. • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work unsupervised with all ages and backgrounds. • Experience working with volunteer organizations, either as a staff member or volunteer is preferred. • Must be able to work some nights and weekends. • Knowledge of basic first aid. • Ability to work outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions. • Must possess a valid Missouri vehicle operator’s license. • Drug screening and background is a prerequisite prior to employment.
