Husbandry interns are hosted seasonally, with slots available in 4 yearly sessions. Husbandry Internships at The Creature Conservancy entail a blend of animal husbandry and occasional shadowing of educational programs, depending on the season. Hours are 9 am to 1 pm on weekdays. Priority is given to applicants with no planned absences (holidays included) and those who are pursuing degrees in an animal related field or receiving college credit for their participation. This unpaid position entails 20 hours/week of animal care for our collection of over 100 species of birds, mammals, reptiles & amphibians. Interns have the opportunity to learn and participate in all aspects of zoo animal care, including diet preparation, enrichment, health monitoring, behavioral training, and enclosure cleaning & maintenance. In daily care, hands-on animal handling is limited.
