- Description
- This is an essential salaried position with a good benefits package. Housing may be available. The position carries out operation, maintenance, repair, fabrication, and installation of recirculating aquaculture systems at the Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research, an R&D and business incubator center located on Maine's coast just a few miles from Acadia National park. Position also carries out husbandry of marine organisms including fish, invertebrates, and algae. Weekend and Holiday shifts and emergency coverage required in addition to regular weekdays. Work atmosphere is small team, fun, demanding, rewarding, routine, and always changing. Area is rural, cold in winter, "vacationland" in summer, and always beautiful. Location is about 5 hours from Boston and 5 hours from Quebec City, Canada.
- Qualifications
- Required: High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) AND three years related experience in mechanical trades or aquaculture systems. Must be able spend workday on foot walking around campus. Must be able to climb stairs and platforms, and work in narrow spaces under sometimes-adverse environmental conditions. Must be able to frequently lift 30 lbs and occasionally lift or move 50 lbs. Preferred: At least one year experience in marine trades. At least 3 years’ experience in mechanical trades, which could include plumbing, mechanical repair, HVAC, carpentry, or electrical. Basic working knowledge of aquaculture and/or fish husbandry. Experience performing similar duties at an aquaculture lease site or R&D facility is desirable. Demonstrated capacity to work alone and without direct on-site supervision.
