Ekstrom Aquaculture, LLC, is a commercial aquaculture company based in Texas. Ekstrom's land-based Palacios facility produces red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) for the U.S. and Canadian wholesale seafood markets. The Aquaculture Technician (AT) is part of a team responsible for hatching, growing, and harvesting of red drum, which are packaged and sold at Ekstrom's packing facility in El Campo. The AT participates and manages fish production activities in a way that assures a consistently high-quality fish while meeting company production goals. Routine operations include but are not limited to: Managing the aquatic environment using monitoring and analytical equipment, pumps, aerators and approved chemicals; Assisting with hatchery operations in both pond and RAS environments; Feeding fish using trucks equipped with blowers and electronic scales; Recordkeeping, reporting and other administrative functions; Personnel management; Harvesting fish using tractors, boat, seine, crane and harvest truck; Participating in the grading and transfer of fry and fingerlings using fish pumps, graders and live-haul equipment.
Degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, Biology and/or equivalent work experience on a fish farm, in a hatchery, or other aquaculture projects; Physical fitness and a good work ethic; Spanish language skills a big plus; Keen observation and analytical skills; Natural animal husbandry inclination; Basic mechanical skills and the ability to use tools and equipment properly and safely; Ability to work with little supervision and with others as part of a team; A love of the outdoors and tolerance of harsh conditions; Ability to handle multiple critical responsibilities simultaneously; Responsiveness to emergency call-outs when necessary.
