Description
We are seeking a post-Bachelor’s research technician for an exciting opportunity to join an interdisciplinary team conducting a whole-lake experiment in northern Wisconsin. The project is a collaborative effort between the Center for Limnology (UW-Madison), UW-Stevens Point/Wisconsin Cooperative Fishery Research Unit, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The primary objective of the project is to determine if large-scale removals of centrarchids result in improved walleye recruitment in a northern Wisconsin lake. The research technician will lead UW-Madison’s fisheries field sampling including fyke net and electrofishing surveys as well as invertebrate and limnological sampling. Additional responsibilities will include supervising student employees, coordinating sampling with CFL, UWSP, and WDNR staff, maintaining field equipment, processing samples, as well as managing and analyzing data. Duties will require extensive field work that will require working in variable weather conditions (cold and wet). The research technician may participate in additional research projects focused on lake ecosystems in Wisconsin.
Qualifications
Required: BA or BS in Limnology/Fisheries or closely related field Experience operating boats and conducting fisheries sampling using a variety of gears. Demonstrated ability to present scientific information in both oral and written formats. Familiarity with Excel and R. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience operating an electrofishing boat.
