Description
The Aquatic Ecology Specialist is responsible for the Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant buoy program (incl. buoy deployment, retrieval, maintenance, and data management). In addition, the position supports aquatic field and laboratory research and teaching within Purdue’s Department of Forestry and Natural Resources. Additional duties will include but are not limited to: Deployment, retrieval and maintenance of Lake Michigan real-time monitoring buoys and associated data (incl. boat operation) Development and delivery of outreach programming related to real-time buoys Training of students on various field and laboratory sampling techniques Assisting with field and laboratory analysis and synthesis (incl. boat operation, biological sampling analysis, fish and invertebrate identification) Training of student researchers to operate boats and field sampling equipment, including safety training Maintenance of research boats and fisheries field sampling equipment
Qualifications
Required: Master’s degree in Fisheries, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Sciences, or related field 1-year experience with aquatic field sampling, aquatic organism identification, boat operation, aquatic sensor familiarity and maintenance of aquatic sampling equipment and boats In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required experience (Bachelor's degree + 3 years of related experience) Valid U.S. or Canadian driver's license To apply, go to https://careers.purdue.edu/job/West-Lafayette-Aquatic-Ecology-Specialist-IN-47906/692656000.
