Description
POSITION: Western Colorado University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in the Clark School of Environment and Sustainability. The position requires teaching up to 24 semester credits per academic year, with course reassign possible for mentoring graduate students and/or directing a Clark School academic program. Responsibilities also include academic advising, student recruitment, service to the university, and research. In an effort to increase Western’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI), this position is part of a DEI cluster search that involves the following departments: Accounting, Education, Outdoor Industry MBA, and Environment and Sustainability. DUTIES: Primary teaching responsibilities are lecture, lab, and field courses in Environment & Sustainability, Biology, and Environmental Science, emphasizing causes, consequences, adaptation, and mitigation of climate change (including undergraduate sections of introductory Environmental Biology, upper-division Environmental Monitoring, Science of Sustainability, graduate sections of Ecological Research Methods). The successful candidate will also mentor graduate students in the Master of Environmental Management (MEM) and MS in Ecology programs and develop a relevant research program. Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: A doctorate in environmental science, ecology, or an adjacent field. We are particularly interested in cross-trained candidates who bring research expertise in climate change-relevant fields, e.g., atmospheric science, ecosystem ecology, biogeochemistry, climate modeling, or carbon sequestration. Candidates must possess a strong commitment to innovative, immersive, and inclusive undergraduate and graduate education and mentoring, and demonstrate excellence in teaching in both classroom and field settings. Applicants should also demonstrate capacity to connect under-represented students to environmental science research and careers. ADDITIONAL APPLICATION INFORMATION: SALARY: $54,000 - $59,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Added stipend of up to $15,000 possible for year-round service to Clark School graduate programs and community engagement strategies.
