- Description
- WE TRANSFORM LIVES. Everything we do is designed to improve the quality of life of the people in the state of Illinois, across the nation, and around the world. We discover, develop, translate, and disseminate knowledge to address societal concerns and train the next generation of experts and leaders in a way that empowers them to expand the boundaries and applications of science and education to higher levels of understanding and influence. Be a part of our story. The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (https://nres.illinois.edu) is seeking qualified applicants for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position as an Assistant Professor in Forest Ecology and Management and Faculty Extension Specialist. We are seeking candidates who will develop a nationally recognized research and Extension program focused on forest ecology and management. The specific area of research is not restricted, but research interests may include urban and community forestry, agroforestry, reforestation, forest health, or forest-related climate change adaptation and sustainability. Candidates with experience in interdisciplinary collaborations that span the natural, physical, and social sciences will be reviewed favorably, especially candidates that can show expertise in linking disciplines reflected within NRES. The successful candidate will contribute to the University of Illinois Extension program in Natural Resources, Environment, and Energy; engage diverse stakeholders; and build collaborations throughout Illinois. Experience translating research into education and outreach materials is preferred. The candidate should also demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring students. A Ph.D. in an appropriate field is required. The successful applicant will be expected to secure extramural funding, recruit and mentor graduate students, publish regularly in leading peer-reviewed scientific journals, contribute to the mission of the University of Illinois Extension program, and teach and advise at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Teaching responsibilities will include Forest Biology (NRES 416), or a similar course, ideally delivered to on-campus students and students in the NRES online MS program. Contributions to field courses and other experiential learning opportunities will be valued. Due to the Extension appointment, the candidate will have a reduced teaching load of one course per year.
