Description
The Department of Biology and Environmental Science at Westminster College is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to start August 15, 2023. We are seeking a broadly trained individual with a successful track record and passion for teaching in Environmental Biology to join our program supporting a primarily residential, undergraduate, liberal arts institution. The successful candidate will teach introductory biology and environmental science courses for majors and nonmajors as well as upper-level courses in areas of the candidate’s expertise. Preference will be given for expertise that complements and only minimally overlaps the expertise of our current faculty as to broaden the offerings to our students. Candidates with expertise in biostatistics or computer applications experience are encouraged. The teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester, with a typical load being two lectures and two labs per semester. The successful candidate will work with dynamic and engaged colleagues, have access to professional development opportunities, and share a commitment to deliver a high-quality liberal arts education. The successful candidate must have experience teaching undergraduates and have earned a Ph.D. (or A.B.D.) in a field directly related to Environmental Biology at the time of appointment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Teach introductory and upper-level courses across the disciplines of biology and environmental science Collaboratively contribute to interdisciplinary curricular and scholarly efforts within the department as well as across the entire College Work with students as an academic advisor and overseeing student independent research Contribute to departmental program development Participate in departmental activities such as assessment and recruitment Participate in faculty governance and committee service Maintain regular office hours and an on-campus presence Contribute to teaching courses in the Westminster First Year Experience and the Honors College Participate in scholarly, professional, pedagogical, and/or creative activity associated with the candidate’s scholarly discipline JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education: Earned Doctorate (or A.B.D.) in Environmental Biology or a related discipline OR an earned Doctorate (or A.B.D.) in a different discipline with either an earned 18 hours of graduate coursework in this or related discipline OR at least five years of professional experience in related industry. Qualifications
