Description
JOB PURPOSE: The Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Wyoming (UW) invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Sustainable Tourism. We seek an accomplished and creative individual to provide research, teaching, and service consistent with the educational missions of the UW, the Haub School, and the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation, Tourism and Hospitality (WORTH) Initiative. The Haub School of ENR values interdisciplinary approaches to environmental problem solving scholarship that can inform real-world solutions; tangible, place-based experience to develop critical thinking skills in the next generation of leaders and decision-makers; and a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment on campus and beyond. The WORTH initiative seeks to support, expand, and diversify Wyoming’s economy through outdoor recreation, tourism, and hospitality industries. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will engage in impactful and applied research and scholarship that advances the field of sustainable tourism, natural-resource based tourism, nature-based tourism, eco-tourism, or other related topics. We seek applications from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds including tourism, recreation, hospitality, geography, anthropology, sustainability studies, international studies, development studies, economics, and related fields. This position is a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment in the Haub School of ENR with responsibility to support the research and outreach objectives of UW’s WORTH Initiative. The Assistant Professor will (1) teach courses in support of the undergraduate degree in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management, the MS degree in Environment, Natural Resources and Society, and other Haub School academic programs as relevant, and mentor graduate students; (2) develop a productive extramurally funded program of research and scholarship in appropriate fields that support the WORTH Initiative, and (3) participate in the University’s Land Grant mission by serving the people of Wyoming. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated potential for research and scholarship in sustainable tourism, natural-resource based tourism, nature-based tourism, eco-tourism, or other related topics; experience teaching graduate and undergraduate students; a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary research; experience working with diverse populations; and outstanding communication and relationship-building skills that advance the Haub School’s reputation and vision.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - A terminal degree in a relevant field prior to the start date - Demonstrated research agenda and scholarship relevant to sustainable tourism with applicability to Wyoming and the North American West - Collegiate teaching experience - A demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary research, teaching, and/or outreach DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience in design and teaching of on-line collegiate level courses - Experience teaching, managing, or developing applied experience or community engagement courses, capstone projects, and/or professional semesters - Experience working in interdisciplinary teams - A record of participation on successful grants or external funding projects
