Description
The selected person will teach undergraduate and graduate courses according to departmental needs. Courses could include, but are not limited to: General Biology, Animal Biology, Virology, Clinical Microbiology, and Molecular Biology. The selected person must update and revise existing courses, design and develop new courses in their area of expertise, as well as offer previously created courses that are not currently offered. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, the successful candidate will supervise undergraduate and graduate research, coordinate teaching laboratories, attend college and departmental meetings, actively participate in departmental and campus-wide committees, and develop and maintain a successful, externally funded research program in their area of expertise. External funds, when obtained, will allow eligibility for release time during the academic year to a maximum of half the teaching load (6 credit hours out of a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester). Furthermore, since our institutional mission includes education, research, and service, faculty are expected to publish and present research work at conferences and in peer-reviewed journals, mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers, engage in professional and community service, and support institutional initiatives.
Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Virology or a related field from an accredited institution or completion of all requirements by date of hire. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research. Effective oral and written communication skills in Spanish or English. Bilingual candidates are preferred.
