Job duties you will be required to perform: Field Duties (50%) • Assist with data collection at remote field sites: soil, water, invertebrate, vegetation sampling • Assist with documentation and reclamation duties on the Marijuana and the Environment Project • Assist with small mammal trapping, remote camera surveys, and carnivore scat surveys • Survey for various wildlife species according to IERC or agency protocols • Assist in the capture, processing and monitoring of radio- and GPS-collared wildlife • Assist in environmental sample collection for DNA analysis Data Management Duties (50%) • Assist and/or lead in data entry; assist and/or lead projects in data management and analysis • Assist and/or lead development of reports and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals • Assist and/or lead in writing grant proposals and cooperative agreements • Communicate effectively & regularly with PIs & work cooperatively with others in other disciplines (law enforcement; local, state, federal agencies; safety coordinators) • Occasionally work in areas that require helicopter transportation • Travel to field sites throughout northern California will be a common requirement; occasional travel to other areas of California and Oregon is required
*) Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Wildlife, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or similar discipline *) Ability to pass a background security clearance *) Ability to proficiently drive vehicles in 4-wheel drive conditions and drive an all-terrain vehicle; good driving record *) Ability to perform strenuous physical activity, work extended hours in harsh conditions *) Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs of field equipment long distances *) Ability to hike long distances in steep and mountainous terrain *) Ability to camp at or stay at project locations for up to 5 nights at a time Preferred Qualifications: 1) Proven record of data analysis and writing skills through peer-reviewed publications, 2) Master’s degree in Biology, Wildlife, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or similar.
