STATE OF WYOMING invites applications for the position of: PIMM08-07774-Associate Editor-Cheyenne SALARY: $19.93 - $24.91 Hourly LOCATION: Cheyenne OPENING DATE: 02/13/18 CLOSING DATE: Continuous DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS: Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this job is to provide editorial assistance for Wyoming Wildlife - a publication of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. This entails being able to develop stories using a variety of journalistic storytelling styles and content, copy-editing, writing for print and online, helping to manage freelance writers, story assignments, and assisting with other parts of the production of the monthly magazine. The magazine and the position will work to help educate the public about Wyoming's wildlife, about how to fish, hunt and enjoy wildlife and about the services the Wyoming Game and Fish Department provides. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level. •Write captivating and informative content. •Detailed copy editing using AP style. •Develop exciting, conversational content from scientific data and materials. •Work well with team members and freelance talent. •Fastidious fact checking. •Work with all department's divisions to generate and approve content. •Can enhance and maintain liaison with department personnel in the field. •Enhance social media presence. •Must like exceeding deadlines. QUALIFICATIONS: PREFERENCES: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Willingness to be a thought-leader on magazine editing. Experience and education in wildlife management, hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation. Must have a valid drivers license. KNOWLEDGE: •Knowledge of basic concepts of wildlife management. •Magazine and journalism experience. •Word processing. •Understanding of hunting, fishing and trapping. •Work with minimal supervision, have good written and oral communication skills, be multi-task oriented, have organizational skills, ability to coordinate new projects. •Have the ability to build positive working relationships within the agency, with stakeholder groups, businesses, and communicate effectively with a variety of people. •Knowledge of principles and practices of graphic design, visual communication and desktop publishing. •Knowledge of photography and photo design. •Skill and proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Bridge, and Adobe InDesign and other design software packages in Mac and PC platform is beneficial. •Ability to constructively work with people of all ages, backgrounds, occupations and professions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Multi Media Design) PLUS Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Multi Media Design) OR Education & Experience Substitution: 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Multi Media Design) Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: •Statewide travel is required. •Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, on uneven terrain for extended periods of outdoor work, must be able to lift 40 lbs. •Operate a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
