Tall Timbers Research Station can help provide valuable field experience for budding avian ecologists. This internship will focus on the endangered Red-cockaded Woodpecker and provide experience in monitoring nesting activity, banding nestlings, determining offspring sex using fledge checks, identifying color-marked individuals, assessing interactions with other cavity-nesting species, excavating artificial cavities, and participating in other management activities such as prescribed burns, GIS mapping, mist netting, and research focused on other pineland birds. Interns are also encouraged to complete an independent research project. Free housing is provided in additional to a weekly stipend
Preference will be given to recent college graduates that have completed an ornithology class (or its equivalent) and are seeking additional field experience. Participation in citizen science projects that have a strong avian focus is also a plus. To apply, please send a cover letter clearly stating your career goals, research interests, and the earliest and latest dates you’d be available. Also, include your resume and the names and addresses of at least three outside references
