We are seeking one avian field biologist to document nocturnal mortality of Sandhill Cranes from 28 February 2018 through 20 April 2018 at Iain Nicolson Audubon Center at Rowe Sanctuary in Gibbon, NE. Rowe Sanctuary (http://rowe.audubon.org/) is a premier destinations for observing the spring migration of Sandhill Cranes, and is working to minimize Sandhill Crane collisions with power lines. This project will help document the effectiveness of newly developed measures designed to minimize nocturnal avian collision risk. Night vision optics, on-site shared housing, and an hourly wage of $20.00 will be provided. The employee will need to be comfortable working alone observing Sandhill Cranes 5 nights/week for 7 hours per night from a blind, and during daylight hours, will need to be comfortable walking in flowing cold water up to hip-deep to document Sandhill Crane carcasses. Requirements: valid state driver’s license, and an undergraduate degree in biology, electrical engineering, environmental sciences, fisheries, ornithology, wildlife biology, or related field. Candidates with previous experience searching for bat or avian carcasses on energy-related projects will receive special consideration. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a background check.
