Avian Field Biologists needed for a study of avian collision with overhead power lines. Field work will be based out of El Centro, CA and will occur in rugged terrain immediately north of the U.S.-Mexico border. All crew members must be robust to heat and regular encounters with venomous snakes. Field work involves walking all day in direct sun across sandy and rocky desert terrain beneath a high voltage power line in search of avian carcasses. Five crew members, and two crew leaders are needed from 14 March 2019 through 14 June 2019. Crew members will earn $20.00/hr, and crew leaders will earn $25.00/hr, working 5-day weeks (Monday through Friday) for the duration of the field season. Housing and field transportation will be provided. This seasonal employment will occur through a CA temp agency.
Requirements: Valid state or provincial driver’s license, and an undergraduate degree in biology, environmental sciences, fisheries, wildlife biology, or related field. Previous experience conducting biological field work, particularly in rugged environments, preferred. Applicants experienced in searching for avian or bat carcasses will receive special consideration, as will applicants with an undergraduate degree GPA of ≥ 3.5. Applicants holding a Master’s degree or with extensive experience in avian identification will be considered for a crew leader position.
