We are seeking 3-4 experienced field technicians to conduct avian point counts in 4 State Forests in Northcentral and Central Pennsylvania as part of a larger study on deer and forest ecosystems. Two individuals are needed to conduct surveys in Susquehannock State Forest (Potter, McKean and Clinton Counties) and 1-2 to conduct surveys in Bald Eagle and Rothrock State Forests (Centre, Huntingdon, Mifflin Counties). Field season runs from May 17-June 30, 2021. Applicants will work independently in remote areas. Housing is not provided, but mileage and other travel costs will be provided as well as a vehicle if needed. Full time or part time positions available.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Ability to identify Pennsylvania forest birds by both sight and sound • Comfortable hiking and surveying in remote areas • Ability to work independently • Valid driver’s license • Previous experience conducting point counts desired • Experience with data entry in excel To apply, please send an email detailing your interest and experience including your bird identification knowledge, a resume, and the names and email addresses of two references to Margaret Brittingham, mxb21@psu.edu.
