The Orange Beach Wildlife Center externship program is an unpaid learning opportunity for individuals interested in wildlife. These positions are for those just starting out in the career looking to gain more experience. These externs will be aids to the full time interns and staff at center during the busy baby season. If selected this extern will be assisting in the raising of baby birds and/or mammals during the peak season. They will be asked to be responsible for the feeding and diet preparations(as it pertains to the babies), cleaning and cage set up, observation and maintain accurate health records, laundry, dishes and release and whatever else is assigned in order to aid full time interns and staff.
Must be 18 years or older to apply. Preference will go to those seeking wildlife related degrees and/or careers. We require externs to commit to work 2-3 consecutive 8-10 hour days a week for 8 -12 weeks. -Must be able to work holidays and weekends. -Must be available to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. - Must be able to successfully meet the physical demands of the job, which include: stooping, squatting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, standing for long periods of time, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and lifting 50 lbs. up to the waist level. -Candidates must be up-to-date on their tetanus vaccinations. - This position requires a background check, including a drug test - Interns must sign a code of conduct contract.
