- Apogee, Inc. has openings for bat biologists (technicians) for various presence/absence surveys throughout the Midwest and Eastern U.S. The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist crew-leaders and project managers in conducting summer mist-net surveys for Indiana bats and northern long-eared bats. Daily duties will include assisting crew leaders in all facets of summer-mist net surveys including but not limited to: mist-net deployment and operation, identification of eastern U.S. bat species, application of radio-transmitters and arm bands, maintaining and decontaminating equipment, radio-telemetry, emergence counts, and collection/submittal of precise and thorough data. Field work will entail hiking to and from mist-net survey sites with 50+ lbs. of equipment in varying terrain and possibly inclement weather at all times of the day. Work vehicle, necessary survey equipment, housing, and per diem will be provided.
- Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s degree or degree in progress in natural resources, wildlife biology, or related field • Experience handling and identifying bats of the eastern U.S. (preferred) • Willingness to travel from project to project during survey season • Up to date rabies vaccination • Experience identifying flora of the Eastern U.S. (preferred) • Punctuality is a must • Positive attitude!
