Bat Field Technicians (2): Black Hills, South Dakota

I’m seeking 2 full-time field technicians to assist with an ongoing Ph.D. project on cave use by bats at Jewel Cave National Monument. Technicians will work in a two-person team to mist net, handle bats, follow strict handling and decontamination protocols, and manage biological samples.
A field vehicle will be provided. Work will take place from roughly 6/15/19 to 9/7/19. The work schedule is flexible (technicians can determine whether the base schedule is 10 on/4 off, standard workweek, etc). Technicians will be required to have pre-exposure rabies vaccination series (3 shots over 6 weeks) prior to starting. We can reimburse for vaccination series or boosters. Housing or a housing allowance will be provided.
General responsibilities include:
--Bat capture using mist nets and harp traps
--PIT tag insertion
--Field vehicle operation
--Working outside at night, sometimes in bad weather (storms, cold, etc.)

--US Driver’s License
--Bat identification experience (ideally in the western United States)
--Mist net experience
--Experience inserting PIT tags into small animals
--Experience using handheld GPS units and reading maps
--First aid experience/certification
--Pre-exposure rabies vaccination
Previous bat mist netting experience highly preferred, and mandatory for lead technician. Lead technician must have previous experience handling northern long-eared bats.
