This internship will begin by assisting Wildlife Damage staff and Law Enforcement officers with big game depredation across western South Dakota. This position may also assist with turkey trap and transport activities. The potential exists to assist Wildlife Damage staff with late season beaver trapping and removal. Following the winter depredation season, this position will assist Wildlife Damage staff with coyote and beaver complaints throughout the region.
Applicant must be a full-time student at a college or university and have sophomore standing or above by the end of the Fall 2018 semester, must currently be enrolled at a technical institute and have completed one year (nine months) by the start of the internship, or be at most six months out from graduating from a college or university. In addition, the ideal candidate for this position will have knowledge of existing practices used to deter big game depredation as well a basic knowledge of and interest in learning/expanding knowledge of lethal/nonlethal trapping practices. Candidate will be expected to work long hours in inclement weather and should be able to lift 50 pounds.
