Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (WEST), a dynamic medium size consulting firm with offices across the United States, is looking for one to two part-time to full-time Biological Field Technicians for a project in Chateaugay, New York. Since 1990, WEST has grown to be one of the premier environmental and statistical consulting firms in the United States. WEST has a permanent core of professionals with broad experience in basic and applied ecological studies and the sophisticated analysis of natural resource data.
WEST has an opening for biological field technicians near Chateaugay, New York. The primary responsibilities of the position are to: 1) conduct standardized carcass monitoring beneath operating wind turbines, and 2) complete bias trials to assess scavenging rate and searcher efficiency.
The positions call for an eight-month commitment (June – November, 2018). Candidates experienced in conducting standardized carcass searches at operational wind energy facilities will be given preference.
Applicants must be in good physical condition, as surveys will be conducted in locations where temperatures and conditions can be extreme. Environmental conditions include working in rain, wind, mud, and extreme heat and cold. Carcass monitoring will entail long hours of walking, sometimes in inclement conditions.
Technicians will be required to follow all safety protocols for WEST and clients. Work vehicles and field equipment will be provided by WEST; however, field technicians must be equipped with and provide own suitable footwear (rugged hiking boot) and clothing. A housing stipend will be available, provided housing is within 60 miles of Chateaugay, NY.
Weekly hours for the positions will vary from part-time to full-time depending on seasonality and job requirements. Overtime will be provided for hours worked over 40 during a given week.

Compensation: $12-15 per hour DOE

Precise and thorough data collection is essential.
Successful candidates must be able to pass a background check; a pre-employment drug screen; and a DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver’s license will be required. Candidates must adhere to all health and safety requirements.
