Description
- Work on the Missouri River monitoring two Federally listed threatened/endangered shorebirds (piping plovers and least terns) during their breeding season from May through August. - Field work includes locating nests, tracking nest status, assigning nest fate, and observing hatched chicks until fledging on sandbar and reservoir shoreline habitat in North Dakota. - Daily travel via watercraft is to be expected. - Work activities may also include determining if conditions that create risk to the birds exist, and providing protective measures for the birds. - Incumbent may also assist habitat monitoring to assess habitat areas utilized by the birds. - Field work requires long periods of walking over sandy or rough terrain. - The incumbent spends considerable time outdoors, where the incumbent may encounter variable weather conditions and exposure to insects. **Applicant must be able to start by May 1st**
Qualifications
GS-02 Level: -Students must have completed high school or a GED diploma by May 2023. GS-03 Level: -Successful completion of one year of education above high school which includes six semester hours in courses related to the work of the position in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics; OR combinations of successfully completed education and general experience. GS-04 Level: -Successful completion of two years of education above high school which includes 12 semester hours in courses related to the work of the position in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours must be directly related to this position; OR Combinations of successfully completed education and general/specialized experience. GS-05 Level: -Successful completion of a full four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture or mathematics.
