Description
The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is conducting outreach for a GS-5 and a GS-4 seasonal biological science technician (Natural Resources). The positions will be located in Tonopah, NV from approximately March-May then move to Markleeville, CA from June-September. Government housing is likely available in both locations at an affordable daily rate. The biological science technician will collect field data and perform conservation projects, including but not limited to: • Monitor and PIT tag Columbia spotted frog in central and northeastern Nevada. • Remove non-native trout via gill-nets for amphibian restoration in the Sierra Nevada, California. • Monitor and PIT tag Yosemite toad in the Sierra Nevada, California. • Conduct presence/absence surveys for amphibians in the Sierra Nevada, California • Conduct macroinvertebrate surveys for Paiute and Lahontan cutthroat trout recovery projects. • Remove non-native trout via electroshocking in order to restore Lahontan cutthroat trout • Conduct stream monitoring associated with livestock grazing • Monitor stream crossings associated with the Forest Transportation System. • Greater sage grouse lek surveys • Spring raptor surveys
Qualifications
******Application deadline change: Apply on USAjobs.gov 12/12/17-12/18/17********** This is a field going position in the Great Basin and the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Expect to conduct field surveys under arduous weather and terrain conditions. Overnight and extended camping in remote sites will be necessary. Hiking long distances to remote wilderness areas should be expected, as well as, carrying loads exceeding 25 pounds. Amphibian surveys, electrofishing, and macroinvertebrate collections are regularly conducted by wading through streams, ponds, and lakes.
