Serves as a Biologist II on the 16,000 acre Triple N Ranch Wildlife Management area and the 24,000 acre Herky Huffman/ Bull Creek Wildlife Management Area in central Florida. Performs habitat management activities including prescribed burning approximately 12,000 acres each year, groundcover restoration, exotic plant control, mechanical vegetation treatments, and other techniques to improve wildlife habitat. Conducts various wildlife surveys for species including northern bobwhite quail, white-tailed deer, gopher tortoise, striped newt, gopher frog, Bachman's sparrow, and red-cockaded woodpecker. Oversees operation of a public hunting check station, which includes recruiting, training, and scheduling seasonal check station staff.
This is a challenging position that requires good multitasking skills and a willingness to learn. Prescribed burning experience is preferred but not required as the successful applicant will be trained and quickly gain experience while on the job. Experience in wildlife surveys and exotic plant control is preferred. Bachelors Degree in one of the Natural Sciences is required. M.S. Degree preferred but not required.
