Description
The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Division of Natural Heritage (NDNH) is the state's comprehensive source of scientific data for Nevada's at-risk plants, animals, and ecological communities. Our mission is to maintain these data to support land management decisions and ensure the continued existence of Nevada's unique biodiversity. This position serves as a Biologist III, Rare Plant Specialist, for the Nevada Division of Natural Heritage within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources located in Carson City, NV. Principal duties include assisting with rare plant data development (entering data, documenting, and monitoring Nevada's rare plant diversity through fieldwork) and using scientific data and technical expertise to assist with conservation and management. Position tasks include statewide rare plant data collection, processing, and management, including both geospatial and tabular data; working cooperatively with numerous governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, Tribes, and the public through working groups, professional meetings, and other opportunities; grant proposal development and management; and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements: Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field and three years of professional wildlife management experience such as conducting research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects; OR two years of experience as a Biologist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations. Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required. Special Requirements Statewide travel and outdoor work is required. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
