McGinley & Associates (McGinley) is currently seeking a full-time Biologist to join our growing Biology Program. McGinley is a locally owned and operated environmental consulting firm headquartered in Reno, Nevada with an additional office in Las Vegas, Nevada. This position will be based in Reno. Our multidisciplinary team includes biologists, NEPA specialists, wetland ecologists, engineers, geologists, certified environmental managers, hydrogeologists, geochemists, permitting specialists, and air quality specialists. Our nimble staff collaborate together as a team within a positive and fast-paced working environment. The Biologist will support the existing workload and growth of the Biology program and will be supervised by the Lead Biologist. The ability to prioritize tasks and work autonomously, in both an office and field setting, is a must. The position includes technical report writing, project management, research, and fieldwork. This job also requires interfacing with permitting authorities, agencies, and clients.

Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with a team in a fast-paced and creative environment.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team in remote locations for extended periods of time.
A demonstrated ability and comfort navigating to remote field sites (including at night) using GPS units, topo maps, 4x4 vehicles, and backcountry hiking, in rugged conditions and inclement weather.
Ability to work out-of-town for varying amounts of time (over-night trips to multiple weeks in some cases).
Ability to independently interface with clients and regulatory specialists professionally, towards accomplishing project objectives while complying with natural resource law, regulations, and agency policies.
Strong working knowledge of western flora and fauna, and the ecosystems throughout the region.
Strong working knowledge of environmental policies (e.g. Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, etc.).
Ability to follow established study design, sampling protocol, and data management procedures.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Botany, Natural Resource Management, or related field is required. Graduate degree preferred, but a Bachelor's degree AND relevant experience may substitute for an advanced degree.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a private sector (i.e. consulting) or regulatory agency setting, with direct experience in permitting and compliance, biological fieldwork, and the preparation of technical reports.
Demonstrated technical writing capabilities and ability to author the preparation of technical sections of natural resource regulatory documents including NEPA documents, Biological Assessments, Biological Evaluations, Integrated Natural Resource Management Plans, and other impact or permitting assessments.
Ability to follow company and client safety protocols and maintain safe working environment.
Experience working with clients and navigating the regulatory processes of the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and other state and federal natural resource agencies preferred.
Proficiency in ArcGIS preferred.
Experience using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook.
MSHA, Part 48, Surface Miner Training.
Experience with USACE preliminary wetland delineation and verification process.
