STATE OF WYOMING invites applications for the position of: ATTP99-07743-Biologist Technician-Sybille Research Center SALARY: $14.82 - $14.82 Hourly LOCATION: Wheatland OPENING DATE: 02/07/18 CLOSING DATE: Continuous DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS: Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Daily care and feeding of a variety of large wild ungulates; provides veterinary treatments as prescribed; cleans and maintains feeders, automatic waterers, corrals, pastures, and handling chutes. Primary duties will be rearing Bighorn sheep lambs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level. •Daily care, feeding, and habituation of Bighorn sheep lambs. •Daily care and feeding of a variety of large wild ungulates and carnivores. •Constructs, maintains, and improves holding facilities, buildings, equipment, and pastures. •Performs light service to vehicles and equipment. •Cleans and maintains feeders, automatic waterers, corrals, pastures, and handling chutes. •Assists in research including experimental design and implementation, animal restraint, sample collection, and data recording. •Assists in the physical or chemical capture and transport of wild ungulates. •Assists with animal necropsies and sample collection. •Uses calculator, scale, range finder, maps, computer, firearms, dart guns, scalpels, knives, syringes, specialized capture and restraint equipment, pick-ups and trailers. QUALIFICATIONS: PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Preference will be given to those pursuing a bachelor's degree in wildlife management, range management, biology, animal science, zoology, or ichthyology. **Must have a valid driver's license. KNOWLEDGE: •Knowledge of animal husbandry techniques. •Knowledge of principles of wildlife management. •Knowledge of wildlife diseases commonly observed in Wyoming. •Skill in oral and written communications. •Skill in working effectively with large and potentially dangerous wildlife. •Skill in operating vehicles, including 4x4 pickups, ATV's and farm tractors/skid steer and implements. •Skill in operation of common hand and power tools. •Skill in use of firearms and specialized capture equipment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None - See "Preferences" NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: •Good physical condition is required, including ability to lift objects in excess of 75 pounds and work outdoors in extreme weather conditions. •Residence in department provided housing is a condition of employment; evening, weekend, and holiday rotations are shared with other employees of facility.
