Biologist/Wetland Specialist – Multiple Office Locations
Western EcoSystems Technology, Inc. (WEST), a dynamic medium size consulting firm with offices in 13 states, is looking for an experienced Biologist to act as a new Wetland Specialist. The position’s location is still to be determined, but may include Cheyenne, WY; Fort Collins, CO; Bismarck, ND, Minneapolis, MN, or Bloomington, IN. The office location will be discussed during the interview phase. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for supporting wetland-based work, including conducting wetland and waters of the US delineations, running a Trimble GPS unit, technical reporting, functional assessments, mitigation design and post-construction monitoring, and conducting sensitive species survey. While this position is specifically to support large projects with wetland survey requirements, additional work tasks should be assumed including work on renewable energy projects, department of transportation, water development, or other industries as needed. The positions will support project managers with managing field staff, resources and data on a variety of wildlife survey and analysis projects, the set-up of new field projects and short-term field surveys and scientific report writing. Travel and extended field stays will be required. Our Biologists work individually, as well as with a team of natural resource specialists, scientists and biometricians to complete project work. We are looking to fill this position for field work starting Spring 2018 (March).

The Biologist we are seeking has a great opportunity to help WEST take the next step in our growth as a full service environmental consulting firm. This position will have the opportunity to gain experience in a wide array of project work, diversifying individual skill sets. The successful candidate must be a self-starter who possesses:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biological studies, natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology or equivalent. A master’s degree in a wildlife-related field, as well as previous professional experience in environmental consulting are desired
o Wetland delineation training; additional plant identification, permitting, mitigation design trainings are a plus.
o Avian and/or bat ecology are additional areas of technical expertise sought
o Experience with species-specific plant surveys, raptor nest surveys, upland game birds surveys, big game knowledge, or other species of interest area a plus
o Knowledge/experience with a variety of survey techniques, point counts, transects/plots, aerial surveys, trail camera, distance sampling, aerial interpretation, or standard methods is desired
Strong, competent writing skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail and accurately report the scientific methods and results of field studies
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
Good time management, project management and organizational skills with the ability to work well under time constraints and meet deliverable targets and deadlines
A track record of maintaining positive relationships with coworkers, clients or stakeholders
Ability to follow instructions from managers and accept guidance and constructive criticism
Ability to effectively supervise others
Ability and willingness to travel
Successful candidates must be able to pass a background check; a pre-employment drug screen; and a DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company.
