- Description
- Mount Hood Environmental is seeking a motivated Biometrician/Data Analyst to join our interdisciplinary team to implement statistical analyses, develop data visualization applications or websites, automate workflows, and develop computational and statistical tools for clients. The selected candidate would work alongside MHE scientists on a variety of projects related to fisheries, toxicology, and water quality. The selected candidate would need to be proficient in computer programming (e.g., R or Python), have experience collaborating in the Git environment, and possess a solid foundation in statistical concepts. Ideally, the selected candidate would also have familiarity with population dynamics modeling, abundance and survival estimation, life-cycle modeling, and/or fish-habitat modeling. Additionally, the selected candidate would preferably possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and effectively work on a team and independently. EXAMPLE OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: • Collect, organize, QA/QC, and analyze complex datasets. • Contribute to, and understand, computer program scripts and analyses. • Visualize and distribute data through the development of applications or websites. • Develop and implement automated workflows. • Apply rigorous statistical analyses to answer complex questions. • Assist in the technical reporting of analytical methods and results. - Qualifications
- MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Analytics, Quantitative Ecology or an equivalent field, and two years of related experience, • OR Master’s degree in any of the above or an equivalent field. • Proficient using R and/or Python and working in the Git environment. • Solid understanding of statistical concepts and approaches. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience developing data visualization applications and/or websites. • Applied experience implementing rigorous statistical methods to answer complex questions. • Demonstrated experience conducting data analyses such as mark-recapture abundance, survival estimation, growth and bioenergetics, stock-recruitment, fish population dynamics modeling, or similar. • Background in fish ecology (particularly, anadromous salmonid biology) and/or water management in the Pacific Northwest. • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and the ability to work independently, and as a part of a team, on a variety of complex research projects. • A unique skillset that adds to the breadth of our interdisciplinary team.
