We are currently seeking a qualified Biometrician to support work throughout its renewable energy practice. This work is typically related to rare or endangered species, post-construction monitoring mortality, and the estimation of take or required mitigation. This position would start as part-time. Responsibilities: Review of experimental design and statistical methods to meet the goals and objectives of individual projects and research programs within Tetra Tech. Provide technical assistance to Tetra Tech staff in developing sampling/analytical methods and conducting statistical analysis of resulting data. Review study plans for experimental design, statistical rigor, and scientific merit. Evaluate existing and develop new fatality estimation models to guide HCP development and compliance. Creatively estimate biological take for development of HCPs using applied statistical approaches. Provide statistical support for data collection and analysis associated with population demographics, fatality estimation, and population status and trends. Author, coauthor, or review statistical content in technical reports or scientific papers in cooperation with project managers and participating staff. Present the results and analysis of projects at agency, client, and professional meetings. Develop and provide related training to Tetra Tech staff. Provide database support in the form of database design, maintenance, updates, and training for end users.
- Qualifications
- Requirements: At minimum a Master's degree in Statistics, Statistical Ecology, Quantitative Ecology, or Wildlife Biology (quantitative emphasis) AND a minimum of 20 semester hours of mathematics and/or statistics.) Considerable knowledge in wildlife biometry. Considerable knowledge of population dynamics, ecological modeling (spatial and biological) and applied statistics with a comprehensive knowledge of statistical theory and techniques of quantitative biological research. Experience that demonstrates advanced computer skills including word processing, database management and programming languages for databases such as MS Access, Python, Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server, and the analysis of computer data using standard statistical software including R. Experience presenting biological data and analytical results clearly and in an understandable manner in order to communicate orally/written with agency staff, technical staff, and clients. The ideal candidate will have three or more years of professional work experience as a biometrician in a natural resources-related field and a strong associated publication record. Knowledge of database design and theories, implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance. Experience using SQL Server Management Studio (preferred) including writing queries, table views, and stored procedures. Experience using ESRI ArcMap; ArcGIS Pro.
