Supervise and maintain public boat access facilities according to design and maintenance standards to provide quality recreational experiences to the boating public. Provide assistance to the wildlife management area staff in support of habitat and recreation goals.
Knowledge of design, construction and maintenance practices, and the impacts of working on, near, in, and over water. Skilled in the use of all maintenance tools and equipment required to maintain boat access facilities. The ability to recognize and evaluate the degradation of materials used in water-related facilities, estimate damages and materials needed to make any repairs, and to schedule such repairs and maintenance needs. The ability to operate tractors with attachments and other similar equipment. The ability to utilize a computer effectively and efficiently to meet the administrative requirements of the position. The ability to work independently and negotiate/communicate with diverse staff and stakeholders. Able to work in a fast-paced environment and be productive, as well as safe. Commercial pesticide applicators license and qualification as a Type 1 Wildland Firefighter. Ability to coordinate with Lands and Engineering staff to assist in project management.
Possession of, or eligibility for, a valid Virginia driver’s license.
Experience with hand and power tools.
High School graduate, or equivalent, with extensive related experience in facility maintenance and/or construction.
Motorized equipment experience and/or water-related facility experience preferred.
Possession of a NASBLA recognized safe boating certificate preferred.
