Idaho Conservation Corps - AmeriCorps 680 Hour Individual Placement U.S. Forest Service Boise National Forest Idaho City Ranger District Or Emmett Ranger District, ID Position Title: Forestry Technician (Range) Intern - 680 HR Position Summary: The Boise National Forest, Idaho City Ranger District is recruiting one 680 Hour Forestry Technician (Range) AmeriCorps Member beginning May through September 2023. Incumbent will primarily assist in Range monitoring and Noxious weed spraying on multiple districts. This placement will typically work forty hours weeks, Mondays through Friday. Position will be on the Idaho City Ranger District. Duties and Responsibilities: Duties will include serving with FS employees to complete rangeland monitoring (25%), spraying noxious weeds with herbicides (25%), allotment inspections (25%), and water development inspections (25%). This requires hiking/ working outdoors with a partner and/ or independently. Wearing a 40lb backpack while hiking in the woods spraying weeds and driving in rough 4x4 conditions. Required Qualifications: Willingness to work as part of a small team Good written and verbal communication skills A positive attitude Current driver's license Ability to lift and carry 50lbs Ability and interest to work outdoors in remote settings and inclement weather on uneven ground Ability to hike 5-10 miles in a day in rugged country Willingness to spray weeds on hot summer days Desired Qualifications: Attention to detail. Physically fit for long days of hard work Experience with hand tools and basic carpentry Coursework in range management, forestry natural resources or related field A strong interest in resource management and working with youth. Duty/Housing Location: Duties are performed out of the Idaho City Ranger District in, Idaho. Idaho City is full-service small town in western Idaho. Housing is available in a bunkhouse with a common kitchen and shared bedrooms. The candidate may provide their own housing, camp, or use this free forest service housing. Laundry facilities are not available at the bunkhouse, but is within short distance from the housings, as are grocery stores. Terms of Employment: One AmeriCorps member will complete a term of service (length dependent on commitment of hours), starting May through September 2023. The member must complete a minimum of 680 service hours by the end of their term. The member will receive a 30-minute lunch each day and this lunch break does not count towards AmeriCorps member service hours. Training will not exceed 20% of total member service hours. Program Benefits: $10,880 living allowance, prorated on a pay period (monthly) basis $2474.27 education award upon completion of the 680 hours of service. The living allowance and education award are taxable. Members are responsible for providing their own food. Service eligibility is contingent upon the results of a criminal and driving background check.
